From Art Classes to Painting Holidays & Art Therapy... Ó Dálaigh School of Painting in Achill, Mayo Is The Perfect Choice

A Perfect Painter’s Paradise!
The Painting School was established in 1985. The cosy atmosphere of the traditional, fully equipped Old Stable Studio - Stiúideo an Sean Stábla - c. 1850, is the perfect location for a painting break. It provides the ideal workspace for painters to explore their creativity, hone their artistic skills, relax, unwind and experience the ever changing light of the Achill sky. Large, panoramic windows overlook the the magnificent Cleggan mountain range, with views of Croagh Patrick to the South. The Great Western Greenway walk/cycle track from Achill to Westport is adjacent. The area has a rich diversity of habitat, interesting flora and fauna and a special area of conservation, which includes blanket bog.

  • Artists of all abilities, from beginners to improvers, can avail of a wide selection of dates from April to October.
  • Groups are small, so participants receive individual attention and constructive critique of their work, as they progress.
  • Instruction  in all painting media with a focus on developing personal style.
  • All aspects of composition, perspective, tonal value etc. are covered during the course.
  • Weather permitting, participants will visit various locations on Achill Island/Curraun Peninsula.
  • Artists are asked to bring their own supply of paint, brushes and canvas / paper. However, all of these can be purchased at the Gallery, which has a selection of affordable, art supplies.
  • Paticipants can avail of the opportunity to practise their “cupla focail” (few words of Irish). It is not a pre-requisite to have Irish – merely, to be open to new experiences!
